Basketball Riots in Serbia [J. Mark English]

BELGRADE, Serbia, June 16 (UPI) -- Serbia's police minister says 27 people were injured and 30 arrested in a clash between rioting basketball fans and police in Belgrade.

Police Minister Dragan Jocic said riot police fired in the air and used teargas to disperse the fans inside and outside a Belgrade sports hall during a basketball game Thursday evening between local rival teams, Red Star and Partizan, Belgrade's B92 radio reported Friday.

Nine police officers and 18 fans were injured, but none seriously doctors at Belgrade's emergency medical center told B92.
