Red Sox 14, Yankees 3
As he labored his way through 30 pitches and dug his team a 2-0 hole in the first inning, Josh Beckett didn't seem to have any answers for his three-start slump.
But they seemed to come roaring out of his right hand every inning thereafter. Beckett, in his fourth attempt, finally picked up that elusive fourth victory. It came on the mound of Yankee Stadium, where Beckett and the Red Sox rolled to a 14-3 victory over the Yankees in the opener of a three-game series against their rivals.
Beckett (seven innings, six hits, three earned runs, no walks, seven K's) stiff-armed the Yankees after Jason Giambi took him deep for a two-run homer in the first. It ended up being a sweet return to Yankee Stadium for Beckett, who hadn't pitched in the historic yard in the Bronx since his shutout for the Marlins in clinching Game 6 of the 2003 World Series.
