Duke Players Have Their Day in Court [J. Mark English]
For nearly a solid year, a pitiful man, whom just happened to be a District Attorney in North Carolina, harassed and nearly ruined the lives of a few innocent lacrosse players from Duke. Mike Nifong tortured those athletes, and hung over their heads the fear of being indicted for a crime they did not commit. He dragged a case as far as it could go with no evidence.
Justice has been served though. Today, instead of him prosecuting the Duke players, it was him being put on the stand and having to face those he tormented for too long.
This is from WRAL.com:
"My community has suffered enough," a tearful Mike Nifong said Friday during his testimony at his State Bar ethics trial to the surprise of the families and defense attorneys of the cleared lacrosse players, as well as others in the courtroom.
"Throughout the years I have served as a prosecutor I have always tried to do the right thing," a tearful Mike Nifong said. "In this case, I was trying to do the right thing. Much of the criticism directed to me in the is case is justified. The allegations that I'm a liar, however, are not justified."
Nifong said regardless of the State Bar's decision, it would not be fair to the people in Durham County to be represented by "someone who is not held in high esteem."
So what does all of this mean? The pathetic DA will resign, regardless of the outcome of his hearing.
I hope this serves as a lesson to those in power that seek to destroy other peoples lives in order to advance their own career. You will be found out. You will not succeed. Justice has away of correcting the errs in the system.
And to the people who rushed to a verdict, and assumed that the Duke boys were guilty, shame on you. There were members of the Duke faculty that haunted the boys day and night last year. They would go outside their fraternity house holding signs that said "castrate them".
The best way to understand the pain that Nifong caused is to watch the testimony of Reade Seligmann. Click on his name and you'll see the wrong that was done to these fine gentlemen.
