Rags to Riches Wins the Belmont Stakes [David Stefanini]

What an amazing race this was. Rags to Riches became the first female to win the Belmont stakes in 102 years. The last female horse to win at the Belmont was Tonya who won the race in 1905.

I don't know about you, but I have watched the Triple Crown for roughly a decade now and I can't remember a string of 3 races this exciting to watch.

First we had the super-horse performance of Street Sense coming from 2nd to last to win the Kentucky Derby. In the Preakness Stakes there was Street Sense once again coming from nowhere to take the lead only to lose by less than an inch to Curlin.

Then there was the Belmont Stakes. Where 4 horses were dead even in the final turn. Then the battle of the sexes took place. It was race favorite Curlin, the winner of the Preakness, head to head with female horse Rags to Riches. They went back and forth throughout the stretch run until Rags to Riches finally got the lead by a nose and held on.

This was by far the best Triple Crown I have ever seen. It really brought the excitement back into horse racing. Last year we had the tragic story of Barbaro, but this year we had nothing but three outstanding races. I can only hope we will have these kind of races in the years to come.
