Melee in the Bronx [J. Mark English]

Bronx, NY -- (Sports Network) - The Big Unit nearly hit Eduardo Perez with an inside pitch and was immediately tossed by home plate umpire Paul Schrieber. In the previous inning, Cleveland starter Jason Johnson had hit Jorge Posada with a pitch and Schrieber overreacted badly by warning both benches.
Although there looked to be no intent to Randy Johnson's pitch, Perez took issue with it and slowly advanced toward the mound before being cut off by Posada. New York manager Joe Torre was tossed along with Johnson.
"We have been getting a lot of guys getting beat up lately," said Alex Rodriguez. "Getting hit is just part of the game."
The ejections were Johnson's first and Torre's second of the season...
