Craig Biggio Gets Hit Number 3,000 [David Stefanini]
To me this is more impressive than Frank Thomas' 500th career home run. But first, let me tell you this is the first time in MLB history that two players have reached these two monumental milestones on the same day. Craig Biggio and Frank Thomas have just re-written the record books.
Biggio became the 27th player in MLB history to get to the 3,000 hit mark. He is only the 9th player to do it for the same team. That is why it is more impressive than the Thomas homer. In an era where big home runs are hit here is a small guy who came to the ballpark everyday for the same team and just played.
If he doesn't get a hit, he usually gets hit. When he is on base he can steal. He is in a very elite group of people with 250 career home runs and 400 stolen bases. Something that is over looked is he has hit more doubles in his career than Hank Aaron. And by the way he is the only player to play a full season at 2B, C, and OF. Think about that; 3 complete seasons he has spent at different positions. That is like a football player one year being the QB, one the RB, and one the WR. That's a feat which is almost impossible to comprehend.
There is no question that Biggio is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is one of the very best players to ever play the game.
