Irvin, Thomas, Matthews, Sanders, Hickerson and Wehrli Make it to Canton [David Stefanini]
The 2007 NFL Hall of Fame class was highlighted by Michael Irvin and Thurman Thomas. Growing up I was a little front runner who loved the Dallas Cowboys; with the three-headed monster of Aikman, Smith, and Irvin. Being the Cowboys fan that I was, I hated Thurman Thomas for the two Super Bowl performances he put forth.
Though I remember him for being a person who couldn't deal with pain, Thomas was an amazing running back who rushed for 1,000+ yards in eight consecutive seasons.
Bruce Matthew took the chance to speak out for his brother to join him in the Hall. While Gene Hickerson is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. His son, Bob accepted the award in his name. But the day clearly belonged to Michael Irvin.
Irvin, who is known for being outspoken, was humbled. He gave credit to Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman, along with the Cowboys organization and owner Jerry Jones. Watching Michael Irvin be brought to tears was an emotion event.
It was a great ceremony and 6 truly worthy people got there place amongst the best of all-time.
