RE: Barry Bonds Breaks the All Time Home Run Record [David Stefanini]
First, congratulations to the greatest home run hitter of all time, Barry Bonds. Now to react in my thoughts to what Mark English put up:
Did Barry Bonds take steroids, more than likely, yes. However, I am willing to bet 75% of players took performance enhancing drugs. That 75% includes pitchers.
Considering that people in this era took steroids like it was water, and considering that a lot of the pitchers who Bonds went up against were on steroids, this record should not be tainted. Think about it like this; how about the pitchers Barry has gone up against in his career. Due to these drugs, there 90+mph fastballs would probably be more like 85. So if Barry didn't take steroids, would he have been able to hit the 85 mph fastball out of the ballpark? I'll let you come up with your own answers.
I am just tired of people saying if he didn't do steroids, or what if the pitchers didn't do steroids. Lets just forget it and move on. Barry, like it or no, is the greatest home run hitter of all time. He has the most in a single season, 73 and the most in a career, 756. This record, like all records, is made to be broken. For example, the media has over-flooded us with images of A-Rod one day breaking this record. Well according to Jose Canseco, A-Rod isn't as clean as we all think. So what if he gets the record and it turns out he was cheating?
Lets just leave it where it is. Barry Bonds is the best and he has the record. Bonds, before he became huge, was considered one of the best players in the game. He had 8 Gold Gloves, 411 HR's, and was one of the best at stealing bases. Bonds is one of the best players in the game, and as far as I am concerned, the best to ever play it, with or without steroids.
